The Agriates Desert

Formerly considered as the breadbasket of Corsica, culture and breeding then prospered there, Agriate today represents the only European “desert”. There is no sand here (except for the beaches!), but an arid maquis where diverse vegetation grows, immensity of ridges, valleys and rocky peaks, facing the sea and Cap Corse. Time seems to have stopped there.

Belonging to the Conservatoire du Littoral, the arid landscape of maquis and granite carved by the sea air softens as you approach the shore. Immensity of ridges, valleys and rocky summits, facing the sea and Cap Corse, Time seems to stand still. The vineyard, the meadows and the olive trees are still exploited there.

It is also the farm that has shaped the different maquis that you will encounter: the dense bushes of wild olive and lentisk, the high maquis of arbutus, holm oak and heather and the low maquis of cistus. , rosemary, lavender and immortelle.
